Tailored programs to enhance performance

Unconscious Potential can design, develop and deliver a learning and development program aimed at enhancing the competencies and maturity of your employees.

Unconscious Potential has its grass roots in engineering, project and technical management. Given this experience and knowledge of how these environments operate, there is a strong understanding of the culture and needs required of leaders in this field.

All programs are bespoke design and customised to client requirements.

We will discuss with you what your objectives are. For example, your focus may be on improvements in management and  leadership skills, stakeholder management and communication, frontline, mid manager or senior management development. We will develop programs according to your objectives, taking into account time and available budget.

The below programs are samples of what can be provided.

The Leadership Advantage - Emotional Intelligence

In today’s competitive market, success is dependent on the understanding and utilisation of one’s Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Technical Quotient (TQ) as well as Emotional Intelligence (EI). All three factors are related and enable effective leadership. The emotionally intelligent leader is also more creative, solves problems better and more quickly, lives longer and enjoys higher levels of leadership influence.

The emotionally intelligent manager is one who masters self awareness, self management and has the ability to relate to others. He or she is able to effectively manage the complex role of motivating and energising people towards the achievement of a common goal. This results in an increase in their effectiveness, which relates to improved stakeholder satisfaction, motivated team environments, improved productivity and an overall positive impact on the organisation.

“I believe that Silvia has the answers. There are always challenges in any workplace, but the likelihood of success is increased if you are able to understand yourself and truly understand others.

I watched Silvia take a room of skeptical project and program managers and convert them into believers through her passionate yet scientific approach. Silvia is inspirational and anyone in the workplace who is in a position where they need to influence. i.e. everyone, should consider engaging her for their own development as well as their staff.” J. Brain Based Leadership

The changing global and workplace environment demands a new breed of leader who is able to influence people in stressful environments and who gets the best from those they lead when under pressure, including themselves.

That challenge calls for a growing need to improve the way people work together and understand the true drivers of human social behaviour.

It is well known that to achieve success one needs to have a combination of technical and people skills. It is with regard to the latter that neuroscience is confirming so much about human behaviour and providing us with valuable insights we can apply to the real world.

In this powerful program, you will be introduced to a key brain based leadership models that you can apply in leading yourself and your teams

Participants will leave the program with increased self-awareness regarding how they operate, their underlying drivers as well as increased confidence in a position of leadership.

“Excellent blend of science and practical information to back up an intangible topic area. Well worth the investment. It’s a great program and it helps you to see the world in all the different emotions it holds”  Participant, TransGrid

“Silvia is an excellent educator. The short but intensive program was highly effective and relative to my role and experiences as a senior manager. This program immediately helped me identify and understand tools and theories that I could apply in my day to day role to enhance my management style and improve my ways of handling difficult situations and challenging staff. Silvia was highly engaging and an expert trainer in this field. Her knowledge and real life examples connected well and inspired me. Thankyou.” Senior Executive, PinPoint Marketing

Leader as Coach

Coaching makes brain sense as we learn better when we make our own connections and find our own answers. A leader is key to this interaction with those they lead. While telling may be easier than asking, it does not support development nor is it sustainable.

Coaching is a key skill for leaders to develop. It’s also a key tool for developing leaders and creating an empowered collaborative leadership culture. Research shows that leaders are more effective when they adopt a coaching style. They are personally more influential and encourage innovation and accountability in the people they lead.

Coaching provides direction, guidance, or support to help individuals achieve an objective. In organisations, coaching can be used to help employees develop professionally, enhance their work performance and contribute to the overall goals and success of the organisation.

Leader as Coach training provides organisations with the ability to invest in their own people by training leaders as coaches to work directly with employees.

Training internal leaders to be coaches provides organisations with a powerful means to improve overall business performance.

“The program is well designed. The reading material provided complements the “hands – on” delivery of the program. Silvia has a strong belief in the value of the material & the benefits to individuals & organisations from coaching; she is knowledgeable and experienced. The workshops provided an opportunity to experience & test what turned out to be a robust model for managing & motivating staff.”  Attendee – RailCorp Projects Division

Transform Your Meetings

People in organisations are spending more of their time in meetings. Leading productive meetings and ensuring the contribution of everyone has, therefore, become a serious consideration. This applies to meeting of all types – from operational to project. So if your experience of meetings is often frustrating, the results are too often disappointing, or if people are not engaged, then The Thinking Environment approach to leading meetings will be a breakthrough.

What is a Thinking Environment? – A Thinking Environment is the set of conditions under which people can think for themselves with rigour, imagination, courage, and agility. The Thinking Environment is a combination of behaviours and processes which cultivate an individual and groups best thinking.

Research on the application of The Thinking Environment has identified the following.
• Produced a measurable, positive impact on the performance indicators of organisations
• Generated better ideas, solutions and decisions
• Created an environment in which people felt valued and equal
• Achieved resolution faster
• Gave rise to greater participation and involvement from everyone
• Fostered productive working relationships

The program provides key skills to move towards a more powerful approach through a highly experiential experience.

“One of the most useful training courses I have ever participated in. It provided tools that I can use immediately and Silvia is very easy to follow and engage with. Recommend to anyone who facilitates or participates in meetings.”  Course Participant – YMCA

Wellbeing and Resilience

The ability to self manage and maintain a high level of resilience is imperative to our professional success, health and well being. Research has shown that resilience is “the single most important factor in determining whether a person is successful, satisfied and happy” (Shatt, 2008, The Resilience Factor).

This program explores approaches to supporting resilience through both a neuroscience and positive psychology approach. Positive Psychology is the scientific study of optimum human functioning. Its principles are being utilised by individuals and organisations alike.

This course will provide you or employees with the ability to identify characteristics of resilient people, as well as practical evidence based tools and techniques that can be implemented to support and increase resilience and minimise negative stress.

“I just wanted to thank you again for conducting a great course. I’ve been to some of questionable value in the past but I got so much out of yours. Not only was the content great, the pace was perfect and your presentation was patient, sympathetic and good humoured. Not everyone can pull this off so well done! I’ve recommended everyone in our team do the course.”  Course Participant, University of New England

The Neuroscience of Communications

Communication is key to our interactions – professionally as well as personally. Each of us speaks an average of over 10,000 words per day. Just how many make a difference in a positive way?  Research shows that that 9 out of 10 conversations miss the mark.

Advances in neuroscience are providing us with information as to what is going on when we communicate. What we now know is that conversations are not just about words but included is a hidden language of trust and that conversations trigger neurochemical reactions that positively or negatively impact on relationships.

The Neuroscience of Communications gives us insight into:

  • how our brain responds during conversations?
  • how conversations activate the trust or distrust networks in our brain
  • how to understand and architect conversations that create healthy thriving relationships

“Silvia is a terrific, energetic presenter. This course really makes you analyse on a different level how you converse with people on a daily basis both in a work environment and personal. I am sure I can take a number of strategies from today’s session to improve the way I communicate.”Participant

The Brain and Time Management

Which of these situations reflects your current state?

  • Spending too much time at work.
  • Too many meetings, fires, interruptions, etc.
  • Want to be more productive
  • Not getting to the ‘real work’ due to distractions

In wanting to better manage time and improve our personal effectiveness, we need to start by understanding the brain and the impact of our current ways of working on the brain. This foundation will support us to define better strategies which when applied can make a meaningful difference to how we operate, our ability to focus and our effectiveness.

“I enjoyed the way Silvia progressively built on the theory and practice of time management so that the reality and possibility of time management grew on me. Appreciated the focus on how time management relates to the brain – not something included in other time management training” – Participant
